Apple Unveils Even More Stuff…

Posted on September 2, 2010 · Leave a Comment

…as if you didn’t expect it! They are always setting the pace or remain fighting in an all out technology battle.

Steve Jobs announced that we can now fork out our employee bucks (a lot less harsh if you work for them) and find a new reason to buy the same product we already have.

These are the current models of the iPods from...

Yes, if you already have an iPod Touch or Nano, prepare to be tempted to buy them again because Apple’s going to keep on coming with the new stuff (in bits and pieces).

HERE ARE THE TOP 3 THINGS that were unveiled yesterday at Apple’s product meeting:

Apple software will now include a Facebook/Twitter-esque social media  network called Ping. People can check into places, check out what songs they’re friends are purchasing and chat etc.

The iPhone 4 has it, now the iPod Touch will too! We’re referring to the front-facing video camera that allows video chat and picture taking.

The lovely little iPod Nano will now be completely buttonless and touch screen.  OH! And I bet your old Nano doesn’t have WiFi capability.

Take a visit to the Apple Company Store or Apple, Inc. and get first dibs on what’s new. They’re located at:

Apple Store: 10500 North De Anza Boulevard Cupertino, CA (408) 899 3800

Apple Inc.: 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino, CA (408) 996 1010

What Could Your Kid Do With $100?

Posted on August 24, 2010 · Leave a Comment

I recently tuned into a segment on ABC about “Smart Things To Do with $100.” It may not seem like much but $100 could stretch a long way.

For retirement over time, a $100 savings a month could ,be the difference on how good you can live when the time comes. For college kids and young parents, the same; $100 can become saving or investing for the near future.

Speaking of investing, the video’s tip for parents and children stuck out to me, as the anchor mentioned one of her favorite sites in which kids could enjoy the fruits of $100.

OneShare.com is an online stock buying web site where parents or kids can pick some of their favorite brands to invest in. The stocks are kid-friendly and simple to keep up with–and THEY’RE REAL.

Kids can become 1st-time stock owner of their favorite places, people, toys etc. and make real money off of it! For example if your kid is a fan of Barbies (or G.I. Joe), you can buy them one share, or two, shares in Mattel. The kid even gets a cool stock certificate that awards them the amount of stocks with their very name on it!

All brands on the site are one of America’s largest and strongest 150 companies, so your $100 will most expectantly do well!

Check them out: There’s stock specials, stock for grads, babies, girls, boys, and Him/Her.

Interested in knowing how much energy you gobble in your apartment here at Arioso?  Now you can check out the new Kill-A-Watt meter from any one of Santa Clara County Libraries to do so.

For free, you can borrow the meter  and take it home to see just how much energy your appliances are using up. Currently, they are 15 available in Sunnyvale and 10 available in Cupertino. Cupertino residents are allowed to use the meter for 3-Week Periods to get a good measurement of the device. They’ve only been introduced to the library for 2 weeks and already everyone is eager to use them!!

Here’s how it works: Plug the meter into a wall socket and then plug the appliance directly into the meter. The device has a small screen which displays how much energy is being pumped into the appliance. The device also converts the readings into monthly costs. It also reads in four languages—Vietnamese, Spanish, English and Kill-A-Watt meterChinese.

Reserve one today if you too would like to find out how the Kill-A-Watt meter works!

If you have control over the appliances in your house, the meter can help you decide which appliances you can replace for better efficiency. If not, you can also use it to plan how often you use an appliance over another (i.e. a stove over microwave) and which ones you can leave plugged out or in.

Even though we live in apartments, a lot of us still find ourselves with too much stuff in the house! Aside from the storage rooms, we start to pack up vertically! We most often find ourselves spring cleaning more than just springtime.

Now, we may not have garages in apartments, but we can get rid of our unwanted junk with a garage sale—a citywide garage sale at that!

The more junk we get rid of without sending it to the city landfill, the less resources we use as a city! What a green deed!

Sign up to get rid of your antique, unwanted, or excessive things in time for the 12th Annual City of Cupertino Garage Sale on September 25-26th, 2010! Multi-family and community sales draw lots of attention and promote great support for community groups.

Go ahead, start digging in those closets and storage bins! Find out how to donate/recycle:Community Sale

National Night Out is sweeping America again this year, bringing thousands of neighborhoods out when the streetlights come on!

Cupertino would have it no other way than to be one of those neighborhoods. On Tuesday August 3rd, get out of that apartment or house and go meet your neighbors!

As a part of National Drug and Safety Prevention, the program sets to:

(1)   Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in Neighborhood Watch; (3) Strengthen and promote spirit within neighborhoods; and (4) Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. [1]

This is the 27th year that the National Association of Town Watch has rolled out the state-wide event! Neighborhoods and communities are encouraged to plan fun things for residents to come out to between 7PM-9PM on Tuesday.

We here at Arioso Apartments would like to help the initiative with planning ideas such as:

  • Welcome New Residents to make them familiar faces
  • Create a gathering potluck (food is the best conversation piece)
  • Scavenger Hunt around the Neighborhood
  • Ice Cream Social

It’s the summertime and we all know what that means. With temperatures through the roof, folks are sweating profusely everyday.  I don’t know about you but I change clothes at least three times a day, especially if I start to feel any piece of clothing sticking to me.

With all the clothes that go straight into the laundry basket, makes every other day a laundry day.

More Dirty Clothes= More Laundry To Do=More Laundry Detergent To Buy= Not Cheap.

If you have expensive taste like myself, using only the $9 boxes of Gain Island Fresh, good luck being able to afford your laundry!

A laundry intervention is needed as this is the one thing I can’t seem to cut back on. Clearly, I am not alone as I’ve found these good, clean tips to cut back on the dirt (and money) when it comes to laundry.

1. Overlook The Brand. What’s in a name? Apparently higher prices! In most cases, I’ve learned that detergents aren’t that different, except for packaging and label. Warehouse and Cost-Plus Wholesalers, like CostCo (150 Lawrence Stn. Rd,Sunnyvale, CA) have everyday prices on value laundry detergent for as little as $2-$3 per 48 load box.

2. Only Wash Dirty Clothes. Of course, the only type of clothes you wash should be dirty, but by this they mean, wash stained or odor articles, saving lightly worn items to be washed on your regular laundry cycle.

3. Use half portion per load. Self Explanatory right?

4. Make Your Own Detergent

Let’s admit–We’ve lost the workout battle more than a couple times to our good ol’ television. Anyone ever had an instance where you just couldn’t even get up off the couch to get the remote, much less, get up to go workout?

For my couch potatoes, unfortunate to say, lifting the remote up and down to change channels don’t count as bicep reps (you’ve lost the battle as well). :-)

Until you find the courage to substitute the hour spent watching “Family Guy,” for a good workout session, consider these watch-and-workout exercises from WikiHow:

Lay down when you watch TV.  This little exercise rep can be done without  you

having to get up. While laying down, lay flat on your back, (beds are okay but the floor is supportable). Bring your knees up to your chest with arms flat at your side. Slowly bring your legs back to the starting point–just don’t let them touch theground. Do this throughout your show and enjoy…

Don’t resist the resistance band. Very simple and very cheap–if used right (in

Tired Workout

Relax! Workout!

the right way), they can bring a good stretch and workout result. Many different upper body, muscle and lower body resistance band techniques can be done, but the best one for the TV watcher is the seated row.

March through commercials. A lot of us hate commercials and flip through them. This go round, make yourself stay on one channel, so that when the commercials come around, you can march around or run in place until the program comes back on.

Of course, if this doesn’t work out for you, you can always come down to the Arioso Clubhouse and use our fitness/health center like everyone else! It’s open even after your late-night show is over…
